Soulbender

Soulbender: A Soulbender is a special type of magic user specific to Aeolor, one who is not chosen by fate, but attains power through bending the souls of creatures he or she conquers to his or her will. Soulbenders believe souls are the most powerful form of magical energy on Aeolor.

Weapon/Armor Proficiencies: A soulbender is proficient with all simple weapons in addition to one martial weapon of his or her choice. This choice must be made at first level and cannot be changed. Soulbenders are also proficient with light armor, but not with shields.

Starting Soul: A 1st level Soulbender may choose one of the following souls to start with, already trapped within a soul crystal:

Soul Crystal Creation (Su): At 1st level or above, a soulbender may turn the soul of any dieing creature into a soul crystal with a prepared action to do so upon the creature’s death.

Soul Capturing (Su): A Soulbender of 1st level or above may capture the soul of any dieing creature with a prepared action, souls can be used for a wide variety of applications as the soulbender levels up. The DC against soul capture is 10 + Half of the soulbender’s class level + Wis. Will negates.

Soul Merge (Su): A soulbender of 1st level or above has the ability to merge with any soul he or she has captured in a soul crystal. This procedure takes 10 minutes per soul merged with and each type of creature’s soul will have a different effect depending on which slot the soulbender places the soul into. The duration of a soul merge is indefinite and temporarily dissolves the soul crystal in which the soul is held. When the soul merge is ended, the crystal and soul contained within is returned to the soulbender.

Soul Slots (Ex): At 1st level, a soulbender gains 6 soul slots on his or her body and one soul can be merged into each of these slots, granting powers based on which slot is used. These slots are: Head, Chest, Right Arm, Left Arm, Right Leg, Left Leg.

Soul Power (Su): At 2nd level, a soulbender may destroy a soul crystal containing a soul to add the contained creature’s constitution ability score modifier to his or her own for 24 hours. Only one Soul Power use may be active at a time. As the soulbender grows in level, he or she is able to absorb the ability score modifiers of different abilities: Wisdom at 5th level, Strength at 8th, Charisma at 11th, Dexterity at 14th, Intelligence at 17th, and all ability score modifiers simultaneously at 20th.

Ghost Sight (Su): At 3rd level, a soulbender gains the ability to see creatures or objects on the ethereal plane at will, This ability progresses to the ability to detect undead at 10th level.

Collective Knowledge (Su): A soulbender of 4th level gains the ability to draw expertise out of a soul. This ability functions in the same way as Soul Power, except the soulbender may choose any one skill instead of one ability. Any ability absorbed this way is considered to be trained for the duration of the ability. At 9th level the soulbender has learned to retain some of the knowledge of the souls he or she comes into contact with and gains a passive +2 bonus to all skills.

Soul Assist (Su): At 6th level, a soulbender may break a soul crystal, releasing the soul inside and commanding it as the base creature, where it manifests its body and any abilities it had in life for a number of rounds equal to the soulbender’s wisdom modifier. Only one creature may assist the soulbender in this way at a time. After this ability ends, the soul is nearly completely spent and cannot be recaptured.

Quick Merge (Su): At 7th level, a soulbender may accelerate the soul merging process to a standard action once per day. This ability increases to twice per day at 13th level and 3 times per day at 19th.

Soul Resurrection (Su): At 12th level, a soulbender, while assisting another spellcaster with a spell used to resurrect a creature, may use the captured soul of that creature instead of a complete body, body part, or belonging. This ability also destroys the crystal in which the soul is kept.

Posession (Su): At 15th level, a soulbender gains the ability to break a soul crystal containing a captured soul and cause the released soul to inhabit the body of a soul-less undead, causing it to fall under the control of the soulbender. The released soul must be equal to or above the CR of the soul-less undead that it will inhabit. A soulbender may only control one undead in this way at a time. The target of the possession does not save and the duration of the possession is indefinite.

Stalwart Soul (Ex): A soulbender of 16th level or higher may reroll any save against energy drain or level drain and use the higher of the two results.

Soul Revival (Su): At 18th level, a soulbender may infect any soul with a CR equal to or higher than his or her character level with his or her own soul. This enables the soulbender, upon his or her death, to re-grow his or her body from the soul’s soul crystal in a similar way that a lich re-grows a body from his or her phylactery. At the end of the re-growth process, the soul crystal itself becomes a beating heart and is no longer usable as a soul crystal. If the crystal is destroyed during the re-growth process, the soulbender dies. The ritual to infect a soul takes 8 hours of uninterrupted concentration.
